While conservatives allege ESG policies are “woke” and fail to support the company’s fiduciary obligations, progressives claim companies do not go far enough to address the climate crisis.
In our analysis of nearly 1,400 unique documents from Fortune 100 companies, we found that the corporate use of “environmental, social, and governance” and “ESG” decreased by 65% between 2022 and 2024. But, while companies are talking less about “ESG”, they have not dropped their commitments to climate, sustainability, and more.
